Does the VA pay any burial expenses (i.e. funeral home, casket)?

There are several instances in which VA will pay an allowance as a burial entitlement.
VA will pay a burial allowance up to $2,000 if the veteran’s death is service-connected.
Burial Allowance – VA will pay a $300 burial and funeral allowance for veterans, who at the time of death, were entitled to receive VA pension or VA compensation, or were in receipt of military retired pay.  Plot Allowance – VA will pay a $300 plot allowance when a veteran is buried in a private cemetery if the veteran was discharged from active duty because of a disability incurred or aggravated on active duty; the veteran was receiving VA pension of compensation; or would have been if not in receipt of military retired pay. For more information on death and burial benefits administered by the VA, contact your respective VFW Department Service Officer
